Petra Falcon with Promise Arizona has started something new in Arizona. Perhaps it could be called a chance for justice in the land of the oppressed. Perhaps it could be called a chance to have a say in the laws passed to govern citizens. Perhaps it could be called encouraging everyone to participate in the process so we can keep our government democratic. Perhaps it could be called giving young people, and not so young people, the capacity to make a difference. However you term it, Petra was one of the leaders who helped the immigrant community pull together during one of the toughest years in the history of the union.
Now, Petra needs our help. After taking off from a dead start, she helped mobilize our community. That takes a tremendous amount of energy and ton of money, too. If you think we need to continue to fight for basic rights for all people then please pitch in. The easiest thing to do is pull out a buck or two. It takes a lot more to devote your time and your heart to this movement.
Here is the message she sent me:

Dear Tim,
2010 was a challenging year for us here in Arizona. We experienced the passage and signing of SB1070, the most anti-immigrant bill in the country, which suddenly made us the nation’s battlefront for immigrant rights. From that fire arose extraordinary and inspiring leaders. People who were never engaged in civic life suddenly became engaged in actively transforming injustice into power for the immigrant community. Since April 2010, Promise Arizona organizers and leaders achieved remarkable accomplishments as they:
Mobilized over 10,000 people to the Arizona state capitol for a vigil that lasted 103 days to demand an end to SB1070.
Registered 13,040 new voters
Recruited and trained over 1,5000 volunteers
Ran a 3-week nonpartisan "Get Out the Vote" effort during which canvassers knocked on 37,120 doors & contacting 9,877 voters
Your support this past year has enabled a new set of leaders from Arizona with the tools and resources possible to transform the politics of Arizona to one of justice for all people. Thank you.
But we have much more to do and we can’t do it without your continued support in 2011.
Can I please rely on you to make a year-end donation to Promise Arizona today? Its not too late to make a tax-deductible year-end donation. Click here to donate now.
Your online donation directly fuels the courageous efforts at the frontlines of the fight for immigrant rights. With your help, we can support more organizers and volunteers on the ground by providing them with resources and trainings. We can initiate more meetings with members of our state legislators and create the impact we’ll need to win the fight for just and fair immigration reform.
You can support us by giving what you can with a tax-deductible year-end donation to Promise Arizona today.
Promise Arizona has made a huge difference in my life, I can tell you that. The experiences I had with these dedicated people will never be forgotten. The lessons I learned in organizing, in hope and inspiration are invaluable.
Why not help Promise continue the valiant fight for basic civil rights? It is one of the best investments any of us can make and the government that has fought against justice with so much might gets to chip in, since the donation is tax deductible.
Please don’t think the fight is over. In fact, we have just begun. We need organizations like Promise Arizona to continue their efforts on our behalf. Please contribute to Promise Arizona!
