Arizona Governor Jan Brewer “has did” a lot of damage to the party

If Republicans did not secretly wish Arizona Governor Jan Brewer would disappear from the national political stage before, they likely do now.  The governor was debating Democratic challenger Terry Goddard when things started to get out of hand. The governor apparently forgot her memorized lines and things went border-town South from there.

During the debate, Goddard challenged the Governor for details of "beheadings" in the desert she had talked about on the Greta Van Susteren show on June 16th.  Goddard said Brewer’s claims were false and damaging to the state's image. Later, when pushed for details during the after-show press conference, Brewer terminated questions.

Today, in an attempt to limit political fallout, Governor Brewer admitted she was wrong about the beheadings..

However, Governor Brewer insists she is right about the issue which will define her candidacy and mark Arizona as an anti-immigrant, anti-Latino state.  Brewer insists she made the right decision on Arizona SB 1070 which required law enforcement to detain all persons suspected of being undocumented.  Latinos, persons of color and civil rights advocates cried foul immediately, claiming legal citizens would be forced to show their documents every time they encountered police.  Major portions of the bill were stayed by a federal judge pending legal challenges in court.

Meanwhile, Arizona continues to suffer a plunge in housing values after thousands of undocumented immigrants and their mostly legal family members fled the state. Businesses are suffering under near-depression conditions brought about by a lack of spending. Tax revenues have fallen into the abyss.

Republican businessmen who normally support the party certainly are having second thoughts about the wisdom of supporting the conservative right's poster child. At the same time, Brewer has been a powerful force in mobilizing the Latino voting public. Organizations like Promise Arizona and Mi Familia Vota have become active in registering Latino voters for this November's election.   Many of these voters are swing and middle ground voters which the Republican Party would like to court, but not likely in Arizona.

Governor Jan Brewer has started a national trend many Republicans wish could be put like a genie back into the bottle.  Florida's Attorney General, Bill McCollom, was a strong favorite to win the nod for governor in the primary until he adopted a Brewer style anti-immigrant platform.   He conceded loss without naming his weaker competitor as the winner.

Governor Brewer said she “has did” a lot for the Arizona state budget.  She probably “has did” a lot to damage potential relationships with Latino voters, as well.

  1. In the last four months Jan Brewer has been caught lying, three times and counting.

The comments made on June 16, 2010, and June 27, 2010, clearly indicates that the Brewer says that immigrants are beheading people in the United States desert. She first ran away from the question and the press when confronted with the question. She finally when to FOX/ FAKE News to recant her lie.

When Brewer was confronted with the fact the two of her top Advisors (Paul Senseman, Chuck Coughlin) are lobbyist for “Private Prisons” giant CCA she first ran away from the question and the press.

In an attempt to gain sympathy, she first said her father had died in Germany fighting the Nazi in World War II (which ended 1945) but of course we find out the truth that her father was never in Germany and died in California in 1955. Do you see a trend here?

Brewer signed into law SB 1070 Bill (Did she even read it?), lied about the crime rates in AZ (even Janet Napolitano knows that all crimes rates went down), and now we find out that she is in the pockets of PRIVATE PRISONS who stand to benefit with the increase Federal jailing, and thus they will pay her back, I wonder if it has to do anything about the fact that her son was transferred to a brand new prison, he was convicted for rape and sexual assault, I guess the fruit does not fall far the tree.
