Thursday, April 22, 2010

Now we escalate, Senator Gutierrez calls for action, RIFA passes if we don’t rest on our Laurels!

In a phone call to thousands of Reform Immigration For America supporters, RIFA Senator Gutierrez indicated we may have to “escalate” in order to get our message out.

“What do I mean by escalate?”  the senator said.  Then he spoke about the civil rights march for African American rights.

“Sit at the counter.”  he said in reference to the “Whites only” policy that was in effect in the day.  African Americans broke local tradition and “sat at the counter”.  Rosa Parks refused to sit in the back of the bus, an act which has been written in history.

Senator Gutierrez indicated Arizona is a critical state.  President Obama should send Department of Justice attorneys to block action in Arizona.

Please call Governor Jan Brewer to let the Governor know how much we oppose unfair legislation in Arizona!

“The federal government has an obligation to protect all of the citizens” which you should presume to mean, the federal government has an obligation to protect all people who live under American skies, no matter their immigration status.

“We have a lot of work to do” the Senator said.  He spoke about how far we have come in the civil rights battle waged for years.  Yet there is much left to do.

“We can’t rest on our laurels” he said.

The phone call was inspirational to all of us who watch the injustice passing in a country founded upon equality and justice for all!

May day is an important date, the Senator said.  We must turn out as many people as we can.  We need to continue to show the congress and the American people the importance of this reform.

I, for one, am very encouraged by the Senator’s phone call.  I join with all of you and pledge to fight against a system that in unjust.

Tim Paynter, Attorney, Denver, CO.
